If 6km is the circumference, then use (c^2)/(4*pi), in which case the answer would be 2.86km squared. Then again, since you really weren't specific at all, to say "a 6km circle" may indicate that the diameter is 6km, in which case you would use pi*(d/2)^2, and then the area would be 28.27km squared.
