Think of a box. It has a top, a bottom, two sides and two ends (or, if you prefer, four sides). Each of those is a face, a two-dimensional surface, which, when taken together with the other faces, form a three-dimensional object.

An edge is the place where two adjacent faces contact one another. It can be considered a line, or a one-dimensional object. The corners of that box are its edges.
