A polygon is any sided shape. A hexagon has 6 sides, and is a polygon.
A polygon is a name given to a shape with any number of sides (a hexagon, octagon, triangle, square etc are all polygons), a hexigon is nothing, though a hexagon is a six sided figure.
A Polygon in geometry is literally a "Many-sided" figure. A Hexagon is a "Six-sided" object where the six sides are all the same length.
