A prism has 2 bases and a pyramid only 1.

In a prism, the two bases are "joined" together by rectangles. In a pyramid, a triangle is attached to each side of the base, with the free corners of each triangle meeting at an apex.

A pyramid has either a square or triangular base, and has either three or four triangular faces. Where as a prism has three or more rectangular faces with two other faces with the same amount of rectangular faces going around the edges to match up with the other faces. Think of a toblerone box, that's a prism.

Not true.

A prism consists of two congruent and parallel polygonal faces (called bases) which are joined together by rectangular faces (called lateral faces).

A pyramid consists of one polygonal face (called a base) attached to triangles that meet at an apex.

In geometry, both prisms and pyramids can be based on polygons with any number of sides so let us refer to these polygons with n sides as n-gons.

A prism has two n-gonal faces opposite one another and these are joined together by n quadrilateral faces. Typically, the two n-gons are regular, congruent and parallel to one another, and the other faces are rectangular.

A pyramid has one n-gonal base and n triangular faces that meet at an apex above (or below) the base.

In the case where a prism has a pyramid form, it is the form of a so-called Bipyramid, which looks like two pyramids (one upside down) glued together at the bottom.

In optics, is a transparent optical element with flat, polished surfaces that refract light. Such a prism can by in the shape of a pyramid, or in other convenient shapes. A pyramid that is not made of transparent materials cannot be a prism.
