2. Parallel lines have the same slope.
Any line that is not parallel to the given lines. The transversal that contains the shortest distance between the two parallel lines, is perpendicular to them.
2 pairs of parallel lines.
two ways : 1. calculate the slope of the two lines, if it is same, they are parallel. 2. draw a perpendicular line ( 90 degrees) from on of the lines and if it intersects the other line at 90degrees then they are parallel -HD
Transversal
For two lines to be parallel they must have the same slope. A line parallel to a line with slope -2 would have a slope of -2.
Parallel lines: they never intersect Transversal lines: they cut through parallel line Line segment: it has 2 endpoints Number line: has negative, zero and postive numbers on it in ascending order Line of best fit: best correlation between 2 variables Dotted line: separates graphical quantities Straight line equation: plotted on the Cartesian plane
2. Parallel lines have the same slope.
The shortest distance between 2 parallel lines is a perpendicular drawn between 2 parallel lines the diagram shows it clearly 1 parallel line ------------------------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------- | | | the vertical line is the shortest distance | | ------------------------------------|------------------------------------------------------------------- 2nd parallel line
Any line that is not parallel to the given lines. The transversal that contains the shortest distance between the two parallel lines, is perpendicular to them.
2 pairs of parallel lines.
-2. Slopes of parallel lines are the same. If the lines are different it is the intercedpt that is different.
Parallel lines have the same slope. So if you have a line with slope = 2, for example, and another line is parallel to the first line, it will also have slope = 2.
A transversal line intersects parallel lines creating various angles.
I always remembered parallel line because of the 2 "L's" in parallel. They are perfectly parallel to each other and will never intersect. The slope of a line is the rise over run, or rise/run. Therefore if both lines are parallel, the slopes of the lines are the same.
two ways : 1. calculate the slope of the two lines, if it is same, they are parallel. 2. draw a perpendicular line ( 90 degrees) from on of the lines and if it intersects the other line at 90degrees then they are parallel -HD
Put 2 lines on the perpendicular sides and put 1 line for the parallel sides
