= 200 + 70 + 160 + 56

= 486.

In fact, though, the following may be easier (even if it looks longer):

18 * 27 = (9*2) * (9*3) = (9*9) * (2*3) = 81*6 = (80 + 1) * 6

= 80*6 + 1*6 = 480 + 6 = 486
