This is algebra. In this type of math we use letters to represent numbers that we dont know, and once we have enough of the puzzle we can solve what the number is. x + 5 = 25 so to figure out what value x is we have to group all the letters on one side and all the numbers on the other. When we bring anything across the equals the sign changes. x = 25 - 5 now we just solve for our unknown number x = 20
