quarter and a dime (the other coin is a dime).
It's a novelty coin, manufactured for the close-up magic crowd. You can purchase them from novelty shops and there is no special value. If you look closely at the dime side you should notice a small line where a dime was inserted into a hollowed out penny. Post a picture somewhere I want to see...
This is a magician's trick coin made from two legal tender coins. While you might be able to sell it on eBay for more than "face value" (one cent, 10¢ or 11¢), it has no numismatic value. It has no special value. They're manufactured for magicians. You can buy them at most magic shops.
It's face value, the coin is still in circulation.

a dime
The dime couldn't have been printed as a penny. Different productions and not connected during the minting process. Sounds like your coin is a damaged one.

No US dime exist dated 1804 that is not the Draped Bust type or has the phrase "One Dime" on the reverse, the 1804 dime does Not have a denomination any were on the coin. The 1837 Seated Liberty dime is the first year "One Dime" appears on the reverse of a 10 cent coin and in 1892 the Barber series also used a very similar reverse design. You may have a 1904 Barber dime with so much wear the date is not clear. Take a good look at the coin and post new question.
August 2, 2009 The 1875 Seated Liberty dime was produced at 3 US Mints; Philadelphia which is shown as 1875-P; Carson City which is shown as 1875-CC; San Francisco which is shown as 1875-S. The 1875 Seated Liberty dime was also struck in 2 varities, one with the mint mark just above the bottom of the wreath and one with the mint mark just below the wreath. To determine which coin you have it is necessary to locate this mint mark. It can be found on the reverse [ tails] side of the coin either just above or just below the bottom of the wreath. If there is no mint mark, the coin was minted at Philadelpha, an "S" is San Francisco and "CC" is Carson City. One Dime
first of all i dont know second, i want to ask this question: How would you know it is a 1920 mercury dime if the obverse was a penny? It sounds like you have a magician's coin made by cutting apart both a dime and a penny, and hollowing out one side of the penny so the dime side snaps into the penny side. It's interesting but has no value to a coin collector.
Please look at the coin again. No Mercury dimes were issued from the Denver Mint in 1930.
