The red clay bricks I bought today - measuring about 4" x 8" x 2 1/4" thick (10 cm x 20 cm x 5 1/2 cm) - weigh just under 6 lbs (about 2.7 Kilograms) apiece.

Assuming the standard size of a red clay brick 4"x8"x2-1/4", (1) CY of bricks would weight 6,912 lbs, or 3.46 tons.
it will most like'll be 3.639kg
First and formost, quality firebrick come in 2.5" x 4" x 9" and should be laid flat. Therefore the surface area wopuld be 2.5" x 9" with a staggard joint. At 22.5 sq in per brick, it would take 409.6 brick to finish the 64 sq ft of space. 64 sq ft of fire brick would be one big honking fireplace. Did you mean building brick? It does come in 4 x 8 x 2.5". Do the math.
If you are using the red brick which are 4" x 8" you will need 4.5 bricks per square foot (just call it five.) 5 x 400 is 2000 bricks.
no dumbo!!!! Maybe not such a dumbo, listen to this: I heard that somebody lost a dachshund pup from their enclosed brick walled garden in Aylesbury, Bucks where there are loads of Red Kites. The pup's carcass was found half eaten close by outside the garden. This is not proof it was kites, but seems the most likely explanation.
