It is to know that person, place or situation well. You know a person well when you can identify them by reduced cues (not much), such as how they hold their shoulders, their stride, or even how they breathe. (You don't have to see their face)

If you hear someone talking, you can identify them without seeing them, if you are familiar with them.

You can tell someone how to get to a house or store four blocks away if you are familiar with the area.
