In estimating a linear relationship using ordinary least squares (OLS), the regression estimates are such that the sums of squares of the residuals are minimised. This method treats all residuals as being as important as others.

There may be reasons why the treatment of all residuals in the same way may not be appropriate. One possibility is that there is reason to believe that there is a systematic trend in the size of the error term (residual). One way to compensate for such heteroscedasticity is to give less weight to the residual when the residual is expected to be larger. So, in the regression calculations, rather than minimise the sum of squares of the residuals, what is minimised is their weighted sum of squares.

What is weighted residual in particle size analysis?

Weighted residuals in particle size analysis refer to the differences between the actual measurements of particle sizes and the predicted values from a mathematical model, adjusted by applying a weight to each residual based on its importance or significance. Weighted residuals are used to evaluate the accuracy and fit of a particle size distribution model to experimental data, with the goal of minimizing the overall error between predicted and measured values.

What is the difference of evaluation of inventory between weighted average method and FIFO method?

A method of inventory accounting in which the oldest remaining items are assumed to have been the first sold. In a period of rising prices, this method yields a higher ending inventory, a lower cost of goods sold, a higher gross profit (assuming constant price), and a higher taxable income. Also called FIFO.Method in calculation in which the weighted averagezzor the period is the cost of the goods available for sale divided by the number of units available for sale. When the perpetual inventory system is used, the weighted average method is called the moving average method.

What is a weighted code?

Weighted code, also known as positional notation or place-value notation, is the method of encoding numbers. Its use of the same symbol for different orders of magnitude is what distinguishes it from other notations.
