It is called an equation. That is, it is a statement that says that if you start with a certain number (which we agree to call 'y') and add 3 to it, the result will equal 10.
Can you guess what that number is?
That's right - the number is seven! If you start with any other number, besides seven, and add three to it, you won't get ten; you will get something else, instead. So, the number you start with has got to be seven.
That is what we call the solution, the result we get when we solve the equation. This means that, when we let y = 7, the statement that y + 3 = 10 turns out to be a true statement.
y=10
The answer is y+3-3=7+3 y=10.
a = 3 and y = 0
Well what does y equal? If y equals 7 the 3+7=10
10-y=2y+3 10-3=2y+y 7=3y 7/3=y
y=10
The answer is y+3-3=7+3 y=10.
10
a = 3 and y = 0
Well what does y equal? If y equals 7 the 3+7=10
10-y=2y+3 10-3=2y+y 7=3y 7/3=y
It equals a simple linear equation in 'y'. Its solution is 7/3 .
If 'y' equals 3 plus 10, then 'y' equals 13 ... today, tonight, and tomorrow, until the cows come home, pigs fly, and hell freezes over. 'Y' does not change, so its rate of change is zero.
-13
If x equals 10 and y equals 10, then 9x plus 8y equals 170.
