The sum of the angles in a triangle MUST add up to 180 degrees.

If 90 of the degrees are used up in the right angle (the very definition of a right angle), then that leave 90 degrees to be divided up between the two remaining angles. Thus, they would both be LESS THAN 90 degrees (the very definition of an acute angle.)
