Most people who believe that 1 = 2 make the mistake of dividing by zero:

If 1 X 0 = 2 X 0,

then you might suppose that 1 = 2, by cancelling the common factors, namely the factor of zero.

But you would be *absolutely* wrong to think this.

If it were correct, then all numbers would be equal. That would probably suit the Ministry of Education very well; not to mention the teachers' unions, as well as some nihilist philosophy students. But the bankers will never have it, and, so, the Indiana state legislature is in no danger of passing it. At last report, Indiana has not legislated the value of pi, either.
