Typically, such a diagram is made in a PYRAMID shape, but this is simply a convention. There is nothing inherently "pyramidal" about Egyptian social organization. (Another convention, for example, is to make north "up" on a map. There is nothing that requires this to be so, but we simply draw maps like this for consistency.)
