On a V-6 shaped block, bank 1 is passenger side cylinders 1-3-5. Bank 2 is the driver's cylinders 2-4-6. Cylinder 1 is passenger side closest to the radiator. Same with cylinder 2 only on the drivers side. This makes cylinders 5 and 6 furthest back on the firewall. From the driver's seat you are looking out over bank 2.
Code P0171 means System to lean (bank 1)
P0422 Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) oxygen (O2) sensor is bad!

Bank 1 is the side that cylinder 1 is on, sensor 1 is downstream and sensor 2 is upstream
Driver side
Drivers side behind the convertor.
If the Trooper has the 3.5L v6, there are 4 SO2 sensors. There are two banks right and left, or bank 1 and bank 2 respectively. Then there is a sensor upstream from the catalytic converter on each bank (sensor 1) , and one down stream (sensor 2).Hope this helps/
Misfire detected cylinder #2. This cylinder is located on drivers side of engine (LH bank) closest to front of engine. check spark plug for condition and proper gap, also check coil connector for correct voltage to coil with key on. Use a spark detector tool to determine spark if you wish.. about $7.00 at parts store. check coil itself with an OHM meter for resistance. if you are getting this code after a timing belt change its possible the left hand bank cam gear is 360 deg off.
Bank 1 is located on the same side as cylinder #1. The spark plug wires are numbered.
Bank 1 is drivers side where number 1 cylinder is. Sensor 3 is post cat/converter, drivers side
bank 1 is the #1 cylinder side, possibly the driver side sensor 2 is after the cat converter
Cylinder 1 is located in Cylinder Bank One. A V6 or V8 will have 2 banks of cylinders. A 4 cylinder only has 1 bank of cylinders.
your bank one sensor is the o2 sensor on the exhaust manifold bank one means that it is on the same side of the engine as the #1 cylinder (driver side for the v6 not sure on the v8)
Passenger side is bank 1 & Driver side is bank 2
Bank 1 = The side of the engine the Number 1 cylinder is on Sensor 1 = between engine and catalitic converter Sensor 2 = After cat...
