SECOND ANSWER: Seems there are other theories about this. One of the most plausible is that it originated in the UK with an add for a dish-washing detergent named SQEZY in the 1960s or 1970s. It was lemon flavoured, and one presumably had to squeeze the container, as we still do today with liquid dish-washing products. Slogan on container: "Easy peasy with Lemon Sqezy." It's as easy as that!
