No one really knows who first used math. But mathematics has been used as far back as 5,000 years ago by the Chinese, the Sumerians, the Mayans and Aztecs and the Incas. It was also used by the first inhabitants of the Fertile Crescent in what is now Iraq, in pre-Babylonian society, as well as by the early Egyptians. Math probably evolved out of a need to be able to count the number of items sold by one person to another. A lot has been written about Greek mathematics, but the Greeks refined Math to an inestimable degree by inventing the zero and first expressing a number past ten thousand. And these innovations all took place about 3,000 years ago!
