Anders Celsius (1701-1744) was a Swedish Astronomer who in 1742 created the Celsius temperature scale that uses 100 as the freezing point of water and 0 as the boiling point of water. After his death the scale was reversed to its modern day use of 0 as the freezing point and 100 as the boiling point. The United States uses the Fahrenheit scale created by Gabrial Fahrenheit where 32 degrees is freezing and 212 degrees is boiling.
