Henry VIII's first wife was Catherine of Aragon. She was originally married to Henry's older brother, Arthur, but after his death, she married Henry in 1509. Their marriage lasted until 1533 and produced one surviving child, Mary I. Henry's desire for a male heir and his subsequent annulment of the marriage led to a significant religious and political upheaval in England.
