These things were all invented by people ... 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, also 60 minutes in a degree, etc.

The numbers were all selected in a way that would make it easiest and most convenient to work with them.

I don't know this for a fact, but it seems to me that 60 was selected because it's so easy to break it down into even pieces ...

With 60 seconds in 1 minute, you can split the minute up into 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 15, 20, or 30 pieces evenly, with no remainder.
