How did people count before numbers were invented?
Counting by humans is much older than the oldest civilizations. The oldest surviving proof of people keeping count (by making scatches on a piece of bone) date from 25,000 years ago. When some 4,000 years ago the earliest civilizations emerged, tokens and the good ol' abacus were used to keep count.
How do bankers use adding and subtracting?
To count money, they have to multiply. When the multiplication is finished they have to add the products together. When some one deposits or withdraws money, the banker uses adding and subtracting to find the new balance of the account.
