Not according to my Windows 7 (and my basic solar powered calculator) it doesn't !

Both of them give the answer 3.464101616 - which is correct !

But how can anybody trust a machine to give him an answer that he can't calculate

for himself ?

It's true that the first number multiplied by 2 does not equal the second number specified in the question.

But the first number to the second power (squared) is the same as the second number in the question.

At least as far as my solar powered calculator is concerned.
