Fibonacci is best known for the sequence named after him, defined as follows:

-The first two numbers in the sequence are both 1

-Every number after that is the sum of the two previous numbers.

The first few digits are

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144 ...

One particularly interesting feature of this sequence is that the ratio of any two consecutive numbers approaches a number called Φ, which is about 1.618

1/1 = 1

2/1 = 2

3/2 = 1.5

5/3 = 1.666...

8/5 = 1.6

13/8 = 1.625

And so on. Φ is an interesting number because

Φ^2 = Φ + 1

1/Φ = Φ - 1
