1. Find a fabric store and purchase some felt. You should buy extra, if possible, and consider how many shoes you are looking to cover. A pair of men’s shoes will probably take up a yard of felt, and two pairs of ladies’ shoes will take up the same amount. If you are looking to cover boots or something equally large, be generous and get extra felt. If you wish, you can purchase one button per shoe cover in order to properly close them.
2. Use your shoe size in order to determine how large you should craft your shoe cover. Take one of your shoes and put it on top of the felt. Fold each side over so that it covers your shoe entirely. Your shoe cover size will be decided after allowing for about an inch of extra fabric on all four sides. When you have determined the size, cut two congruent squares from the fabric.
3. Sew a folded down edge from the top. The result should make the edge smooth without any jagged lines. Do this on both squares. Put one on top of the other, such that the top edges are adjacent, the folded edges on the outside. You should now sew the squares together, on the remaining edges. Place the line of sewing half an inch from the outer edge.
4. Take the pocket you just made and pull it inside out. Take your finger and softly push it so that the corners come out. Pick one of the open edges and cut a hole that measures out to be slightly larger than that of the button you bought earlier. Sew the button to the inside of the other edge, making a great opportunity to fasten your shoe cover.
