Alan Turing OBE, FRS died in Wilmslow, England on June 7th 1954. He committed suicide by eating an apple laced with cyanide following his prosecution for homesexual acts (illegal at that time in the UK) He was 41 years, 11 months and 15 days old when he died.

He was convicted of 'gross indecency with a male' in 1952. Instead of prison, he chose chemical castration - injections of the female hormone cestrogen, which it was hoped would suppress homosexuality. The injections destroyed his athletic frame and made him very bloated. They set him on a slow and sad decent into grief and madness.
