It all depends on how far you want to go with disassembly. The trigger group can be removed by pushing the two pins out that maintain the trigger guard in the receiver with a flat-faced punch. The forearm can be removed by backing out the screw located in the very front of the forearm. The stock can be removed by removing the butt-plate/recoil pad and then inserting a screwdriver into the rear face of the stock and backing out the bolt holding the stock in place. If you are looking into removing the barrel to get at the receiver internal parts, a special wrench is recommended to prevent damage to the action bars. There is a small pin that maintains the bolt handle in place in the bolt carrier, so this pin will need to be drifted out to remove the bolt handle. The special wrench is needed to back off the barrel nut so that the barrel can be removed out the front of the receiver. Once the barrel has been removed the bolt, etc. can be removed out the front of the receiver. The special wrench can be purchased from Brownell's Inc. (on the web) that will cost around $40.00 or so. There are quite a few small parts involved with the bolt assembly so if one of these parts is lost or broken they will be difficult to replace as the Model 742 is no longer in production and parts have become very scarce. Good disassembly instructions are helpful. Go to http://www.krausebooks.com/category/firearms_knives
and buy the Gun Digest book Assembly/Disassembly for centerfire sporting rifles. The 742 is in there.
