How did America become the strongest country?

Necessity was the primary factor. With our great distances between cities and the general adventurous spirit of our population, the only way to PRACTICALLY see everything and go places was via automobile. This is a nation full of immigrants and the descendants of immigrants. As such, there is a tremendous spirit of adventure and motivation that was passed to the younger generations from those who were adventurous enough to immigrate. The area that makes up the United States is also rich in natural resources, allowing the nation to cultivate the adventurous and entrepreneurial attitudes of the immigrants. The automobile is responsible for much of the manufacturing innovations over the first part of the previous century. The production line was a necessity when manufacturing automobiles that would eventually be available to the masses. When WW1 and WW2 forced us to become involved in the European conflicts, is it any wonder that our manufacturing resources would be turned to the production of armaments? Because of our resources and our already established assembly-line manufacturing processes, we were able to rapidly deploy large numbers of devastating weaponry. The manufacturing capacity of this country is probably the single factor that is most responsible for the outcome of WW2, and ultimately several military conflicts since that time. Personally, I find it discouraging that we are giving away that birthright when we purchase so much of our goods from foreign countries who would gladly take over the position of superpower and send the United States back to the status of a third world nation.
