Scientists haven't "slowed down the speed of light in the lab" or anything like that. Light is known to appear to slow down when passing through anything other than a vacuum because of the phenomenon of interference. Light doesn't actually change speed. As to how this affects E=mc2 as was asked, it doesn't. Einstein's famous mass-energy equivalence states that mass can be converted into energy and energy converted into mass, with both reactions having a conversion factor of the c2 or the square of the speed of light. (The equation says that a little bit of mass can be converted into a whole lot of energy, and a lot of energy is necessary in its conversion to just a tiny bit of mass.)
