I had always understod this expression as a fancy way to say the thrilling factor, excitment factor, or something in the lines of the one thing that make things interesting. However, Galvanizing is the process to coat metals with zinc to avoid corrosion, and this is achieved by using electrical current to cause the bonding of the atoms. So I think Galvanizing is also used as another meaning for electrical estimulation or a sudden ad powerful estiulation, as in "the economy needs to be galvanized" Please correct me if I am wrong.
