A unique factor pair is a pair of factors that haven't been given already that multiply to give the original number. For instance, if I was going to work out the factors of 24, I would put 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24.

The unique factor pairs would be 1 and 24, 2 and 12, 3 and 8, 4 and 6. I could also write 8 and 3 as a factor pair, but as I've already put the reverse of this, it would not be a uniquefactor pair.

A factor is a whole number (an integer) which evenlydivides into (goes into a whole number of times) a given integer. So, for example, 5 is a factor of 35 because it evenly divides into 35; it goes into it 7 times.

As an example, see how 4 is not a factor of 35. 4 goes into 35 a total of 8.75 times, which is not a whole (even) number of times.

A factor pair are the two factors which when multiplied result in the given integer. So in the example above (5 * 7) is a factor pair. Both 5 & 7 are factors of 35 and they multiply together to give 35. So another factor pair here (in fact the only other one) is (35 * 1).

A factor pair of a number are two factors which, when multiplied together give the number.

For example, the factors of 24 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24. Some factor pairs are (2, 12) and (4, 6).

All numbers have factors. Since a factor times a factor will lead to a product, factors can be listed in pairs.

7 x 9 = 63

(7,9) is a factor pair of 63.

If X is a factor of a number N then Y = N/X is the pair factor. It is the quotient of the number divided by the first factor.

X*Y = X*(N/X) = N
