There are several factors which could affect a child's development. The main ones are: family (primary socialisation), socio-economic, psychological, and environmental.
I'd like to + that's not the entire picture. 1 big puzzle piece is missing to make a complete & accurate profile. Another large factor in the child's development is simply genetics. People are all wired differently. Life would be dull & boring if we all thought & acted the same though! It takes all diff kinds to make up this wild & crazy world!
The fascinating side of genetics is it's relative unpredictability & the exponential # of combinations between all 30k or so the genes in the human body! You never knowhow a person is going to turn out, even siblings or twins! Even identical twins most likely have different personalities! It's merely their looks that are identical!
So, the "nature"portion of the picture has to be taken into account b4 the "nurture." There will always be a debate over which is predominant, or if they're =, in determining a person's dev from childhood to adulthood. The reason I say it has 2b placed 1st is bc that starts upon fertilization of the egg. The "nurture"aspect can, I suppose, be considered during some time in uetero, but that's another, separate topic of debate.
The nurture aspect can alter the person's character & behaviors in a plethora of ways-like the genetics mathematical equation stated above. Or, sometimes the environmental 'nurture"aspect affecting the Child's dev. does nothing @ all to the ones set into our DNA, coded into ur systems. Just like genetics as well, it's hard to tell what the nurture will do to affect this. Even if certain behaviors towards or around the child are widely researched & known, since we're all different by NATURE & react differently, it's really never 100% certain what outside enviro factors will do to change (or not change) any person's inner "program,
Of course, as parents, mentors, educators, etc.- we have the IMPERITIVE DUTY to do our BEST to help the child grow & dev in the best possible way. It is our MORAL OBLIGATION & Divinely given DUTY IMHO- but that strays from the straight science. They should have the opportunity to blossom into their full beauty & strength; able to achieve his/her own potential & purpose. We should AVOID @ ALL COSTS causing permanent, irreparable damage upon their psych (& subsequently their dev.) through our actions or lack thereof.

OK, my .02 became 2k , lol I think you get it! In 2 words "nature + nurture!""
Universal changes are changes all individuals undergo as biological organism. We all go through the processes of growth and maturation we age. Every organism is subject to a genetically programmed maturing process. In other words, all physical changes that happen from infancy to adulthood are programmed and are part of the plan for physical body.
There are some changes in universal arising from shared experiences that eventually serve as shared patterns of normal experiences.
for example: the right time to marry, the right time to live an independent life and even the concept of three meals a day, breakfast, lunch and a dinner is a shared universal experience.
Some factors that affect personality development are a persons sex, race, and genes. The family environment and the physical environment affects a persons personality.

Causes of Arrested Emotional Development under the age of 11 are as follows: Rejection by one or both primary care-givers Incest Sexual Molestation Emotional Abuse Physical Abuse If any of these types of abuse were done to the child the child's emotional development gets arrested at that age. The child can be arrested in the womb, if the pregnancy was unwanted or unplanned and the mother wasn't able herself to properly bond emotionally with her baby.
