All composite numbers can be expressed as unique products of prime numbers. This is accomplished by dividing the original number and its factors by prime numbers until all the factors are prime. A factor tree can help you visualize this.
Example: 58
58 Divide by two.
29,2 Stop. All the factors are prime.
2 x 29 = 58
That's the prime factorization of 58.
The tree method is a diagram that does not display properly in this answer area.
Basically, a factors of a larger number are the factors which theoretically 'make up' the number. Factors are the prime numbers when multiplied together, give the final product. e.g. 2x2x2x2x2 are the prime factors of 32 as 2 (prime) is the simplest form. However, when the number for example is 7, there is only one factor as 7 is a prime number itself.
