The largest ship ever constructed was the Seawise Giant. Built by Sumitomo Heavy Industries in Japan in 1979, she rang in at a full displacement of over 646,000 long tons. At a length of 458 m, she is longest than the Empire State Building is tall. Her name has changed over the years. She has been known as the Happy Giant, the Jahre Viking, The Knock Nevis, and most recently the Mont.

It has a huge open-air space that was inspired by New York's Central Park, complete with plants and living trees

An even larger ship is currently under construction called the Freedom. The ship, which is designed to be a floating city, will be a nearly a mile long (4,320 ft, 1.3 km), 25 stories high from the waterline and displace approximately 2.7 million tonnes. She will provide living space for 50,000 residents, employ 15,000 workers and have an airport on her top deck.

In the past the biggest ships were the Titanic the Queen Mary and some other CUNARD company ships. I think overall Cunard and Voyager class ships are the most biggest and grandest. BUT Queen Mary 2 has and has always been the grandest and biggest OCEAN LINER (not cruise ship) in the world. Don't be mistaken by this chart that the diamond princess and sapphire princess are horrible because there not. I have gone on Freedom of the seas oasis of the seas and queen Mary 2, and wat i think is the best and grandest is probably the Queen Mary 2. Oasis and Freedom are good to but the service is also important and Queen Mary 2 wins hands down.
