Mount Mitchell is the highest mountain peak that belongs to the state of North Carolina. It's part of the Appalachian Mountains and it's also the highest peak of the eastern part of the United States. The mountain got its name from professor Elisha Mitchell, she was the one that in 1835 determined its height.
