You can test for oxygen by placing a glowing splint (not lit but not out) into the test tube where you think oxygen is present. If the splint relights, that means that it is oxygen. If this doesn't happen, then in your case it will be nitrogen.

What test would allow you to tell the difference between carbon dioxide and nitrogen why would the burning splint test not work?

You stated that carbon dioxide and nitrogen are present, but you did not mention oxygen. Nothing burns without oxygen . . . If you expose limewater to carbon dioxide, it will get cloudy, but will not if you expose it to nitrogen.

Is nitrogen important for survival?

without nitrogen our bodys would over oxygenate (get to much oxygen). nitrogen is important for plants, after all they breath in nitrogen and breath out oxygen.

Can one have a dot and cross diagram of nitrogen monoxide NO?

Yes, you can create a dot and cross diagram for nitrogen monoxide (NO). In this diagram, nitrogen would have 5 dots representing its 5 valence electrons, while oxygen would have 2 crosses representing its 2 valence electrons. The unpaired electron on nitrogen would be shared with the oxygen atom, forming a single bond between them.

What is the more important the oxygen or the nitrogen?

umm oxygen. we would die without it

What element is contained in proteins?

What would be a list of Atmosphere?

nitrogen, oxygen, and argon

Why do we need nitrogen i the atmosphere?

Without nitrogen in the atmosphere, we would be breathing in nearly pure oxygen, which would be fatal.

What kind of bonds do the atoms in molecules of oxygen gas and nitrogen gas held together?

The atoms in molecules of oxygen gas (O2) are held together by a double covalent bond, where two pairs of electrons are shared between the oxygen atoms. In contrast, the atoms in molecules of nitrogen gas (N2) are held together by a triple covalent bond, where three pairs of electrons are shared between the nitrogen atoms.

What are 4 substances that can be cycled between the living and nonliving environment?

Water, carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus are four substances that can cycle between the living and nonliving environment in ecosystems through processes like the water cycle, carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, and phosphorus cycle.

What formula would two Nitrogen atoms and one Oxygen atom make up?

The combination of two nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom would form a molecule of nitrogen dioxide (NO2). This is because nitrogen typically forms a double bond with oxygen in this configuration.

What do you get when you add nitrogen and oxygen together?

When you add nitrogen and oxygen together, they will not chemically react to form a new compound unless under specific conditions. You will simply have a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen gases.

Would two compounds made of nitrogen and oxygen always be identical?

No, two compounds made of nitrogen and oxygen would not always be identical. Different combinations of nitrogen and oxygen atoms can form different compounds with unique chemical and physical properties.
