WNTV is now known as Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). NTA is Nigeria's national broadcasting station and has the largest broadcasting networks in Africa. NTA is in all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, it also has an international satellite broadcast called: NTAi.

Nigerian Television AuthoritInaugurated in 1977, the Nigerian Television Authority is the government owned body in charge of television broadcasting in the country. The Nigeria Television Authority claims to run the biggest television network in Africa with stations in several parts of Nigeria. The network began with a take over of regional television stations in 1976 by the then Nigerian military authorities. It is widely viewed as the authentic voice of the Nigerian government. It is known more as a government mouth-piece than as an independent media outfit. The network was first known as Nigerian Television (NTV). The name was later changed to "Nigerian Television Authority", NTA, as it is now known. Its first official director general was Vincent Maduka, an engineer. Prior to his appointment Vincent Maduka was General Manager of Western Nigeria Television, WNTV Ibadan,EST IN OCTOBER 1959, Africa's first television station. The Guardian in its editorial of Sunday October 18 2009 says "The federal government-owned television network, the Nigeria Television Authority, (NTA) is arguably the largest of its type in Africa, but it is yet to have the operational freedom required to maximise its potentials". NTA's monopoly on the Nigerian airspace has since been broken in the mid-1990s with the establishment of privately owned television stations and networks, notable among which is the Africa Independent Television. Some of its programming can be viewed online through Africast. Some NTA News bulletins are carried on Africa Independent Television, and some are relayed in turn by BEN Television in the United Kingdom. The station is made available through Sky Digital in the UK on channel 202 and on the IPTV platform SuncasTV, [www.suncastv.com].
