Should date to 1983. First two digits (17) from 2,000=1983
I found on the web site below, that a 336 Marlin with the serial number that begins with a "P", was manufactured in 1957. http://oldguns.net/cgi-bin/f2f/f2f.pl?http://oldguns.net/q&a1_05.htm
No. In fact, I can't find any model 336 Marlins made prior to 1948. There should be a one or two letter code if it was manufactured between 1948 and 1968. I believe a Marlin with a serial number starting with 24 was made in 1976, but can't find my reference for that right now. I believe 1976 is the correct year. Here is a web site that I have used to get manufacture dates for my Marlin. http://oldguns.net/cgi-bin/f2f/f2f.pl?http://oldguns.net/q&a1_05.htm
I have one. It was manufactured in 1923, the 100th year anniversary of the Chickering company.
Best estimates put this trumpet as being manufactured after 1980.
