22 short, 22 long, or 22 long rifle. When I was a kid we would buy shorts to save a dime per box, longs for general use, and long rifle hollow point if we were going after something larger, like coyotes. Now it's hard to find short or long ammunition anyplace, and if you can find it, it costs more than long rifle.

I have a westernfield pump 22 #119393K with octogonal barrel. Dad said he got it new for his 18th birthday. He was born in 1915. Makes it new in about 1933. I can't find a model # anywhere on it to cross reference, but looking at pictures, it looks similar to a Remington model # 12. The Rem. model 12 did not have model numbers, but the ejection port in my pictures don't look quite right. I've not removed the wood on this rifle, but can anyone tell us if there is a model # and where to look.

Yes, the.22 caliber rifle is perhaps the most common firearm in the US. The .22 cartridge is also used in handguns. Search Wilipedia for .22 Long rifle, and it will have information on the cartridge used by rifles and handguns. I have about 30 different .22 caliber rifles in my collection- they are accurate, inexpensive, ammuntion is not expensive, they have very little recoil, and my grandkids like to shoot them.
Go to stevespages.com/page7b.htm and look for the manual.
All firearms that are in caliber .22 Long Rifle (LR) or 22 Long or 22 Short are rimfires. If you look at the face of the bolt, you can see the firing pin. If it is in the very center of the bolt face, it is center fire. If at the edge of the face, it is rimfire.
