Cubic meters measure volume (3-dimensional), while square meters measure area (2-dimensional). Therefore, you cannot directly convert cubic meters to square meters.

How do you calculate yards into square yards?

I am assuming you mean the square footage of your lawn, so I will answer the question with this in mind. The answer also depends on how you will use the result. I will assume you are trying to figure out how much fertilizer to buy. If you need to know the square footage for something more precise, such as placing sod or, heaven forbid, a real estate transaction, you will have to have a more precise approach. So, you want to estimate the square footage in order to buy fertilizer. If your lot is fairly rectangular (two long sides that are very close to the same length, and the same for the two short sides), measure each side. Since you don't need a very accurate answer, average the lengths of the two short sides (let's say the average is 99.2 ft). Then, average the two long sides (let's say 124.7 ft). The "gross area" is 99.2'x124.7' = 12370. sq ft. You will need to subtract the area where your house and driveway are (no fertilizer there). It will be very helpful to draw a simple diagram. So measure the sides of your house and driveway and calculate the area. (Divide complicated layouts into smaller simpler shapes like rectangles or triangles and sum up the areas of each.) For a rectangular house that is 30'x85' with a 23'x40' driveway, the areas are 2550 sq ft and 920 sq ft. The total of these 2 areas is 3470 sq ft. So, you will place fertilizer on 12370 - 3470 = 8900 sq ft of grass. BTW, your 12370 sq ft lot is approximately 0.28 acres of land. (Divide 12370 sq ft by 43560 sq ft per acre.)
