A pixel usually has a known size, and there are many ways to figure it out.

If it is a printed pixel, then it probably has a resolution of 300 or 600 dpi (or higher!), where dpi = dots per inch. So a 300 dpi pixel = 1/300 inches. To convert inches to centimeters, multiply by 2.54.

So... a 300 dpi pixel = 1/300 inches = 1/300*2.54 cm = 0.00847 cm

For a computer monitor pixel, if you don't know your monitor's dpi, you can measure the width of your screen in centimeters (for example, mine is 40 cm wide... be careful, most monitors are sold using a diagonal dimension). Then, figure out the maximum horizontal resolution of the monitor (look in your user guide if you don't know, but for example, let's say 1600 pixels). The pixel size is then (40/1600) cm = 0.025 cm

The conversion from centimeters to pixels is not a standard ratio because it depends on the resolution of the device. You would need to know the pixels per inch (PPI) of the display to accurately convert centimeters to pixels.

In truth, you don't convert pixels to cm. There is a little more information that is needed and without knowing exactly what it is that you want to do, it is difficult to address this completely. There is a de facto norm of 300 DPI /PPI for printing (that is 300 / 2.54 pixels/cm).

A pixel is one of the colored dots on your computer screen that makes up both images and text (as well as all of the blank areas in between them). Most computer screens display either 72 or 96 pixels per inch. Most printing is based on 300 pixels per inch (rarely 240 PPI).

If you are asking about printing: If you want to make a 4 x 6 inch print on a 300 DPI (Dot Per Inch) printer you need your file to contain 1200 x 1800 pixels. An 8 x10 printout will have to be 2400 x 3000 pixels. In reality, most consumer printing systems will handle this conversion for you. You just tell the software what size print you want to make the software will "re size" your image to the correct dimensions.
