The density of sand depends not only on how fine the particles are but also on how tightly one packs the sand. Meaning, sand poured into a bucket will have a smaller density than sand packed into the same bucket.

That said, loose sand has a density1 around 90lb/ft3, which corresponds to 1.67ft3 weighing 150lb. Packed sand is in the range of 100lb/ft3-110lb/ft3; which corresponds to 1.36ft3-1.5ft3 weighing 150lb.

As you can see the range varies; I would look into the density (in lbs/ft3) of the sand you are interested in purchasing and calculate the necessary volume.

150lbs/density=volume.

There are no cubic anything in any number of square anything. The first one is

a unit of volume, and the second one is a unit of area. They're used to describe

completely different quantities, and they can't be converted into each other.

It's too bad that these units look so much alike ... both with the word "feet" in them.

That can give the impression that they're closely related, and that maybe you can

convert from one into the other. But that's not so.

You'll see that right away if you look at another pair of units ... one for volume and

one for area ... that don't sound alike at all. Would you ever even ask how many

gallons there are in 150 acres ?

150 cubic feet is equivalent to a cube that measures approximately 5.6 feet on each side, or a room that is about 10 feet by 15 feet with a ceiling height of 1 foot.

1500 cu.ft. of what? ...air? ...lead? This cannot be answered unless you know the density of the material.

(D = density in pounds per cubic foot)

D x 1500 cu ft = X pounds

1 cubic foot of dry sand weighs about 100 pounds. So 250 pounds of sand would take up approximately 2.5 cubic feet.
