I do it in two parts. I calculate how much time has elapsed between the AM and noon, then how much time has elapsed between noon and the PM, then add them together.
To calculate the elapsed time between a.m. and p.m., you first need to determine the number of hours that have passed. For example, if it is 11:00 a.m. and you are trying to find the elapsed time until 3:00 p.m., there are 4 hours between those times. You can then convert those hours into minutes or other units of time if needed.
There are 6 hours of elapsed time between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
46 minutes have elapsed from 9:59 PM to 10:45 PM.
The elapsed time is 4 hours and 53 minutes.
The elapsed time of 1 pm to 9 am is 20 hours.
If you set a timing clock to zero at 9-00pm on Wednesday, by midnight it will have recorded 3-00 hours; we have reached the time which changes from the end of Wednesday to the beginning of Thursday; from there to 1-00am is only 1 hour, so altogether the elapsed time will be exactly 4-00 hours.
