To convert a number of inches into a decimal fraction of a foot, divide the number of inches by 12.

So 1 inch = 0.0833

2 inches = 0.1667

3 inches = 0.25

4 inches = 0.3333

5 inches = 0.4167

6 inches = 0.5

7 inches = 0.5833

8 inches = 0.6667

9 inches = 0.75

10 inches = 0.8333

11 inches = 0.9167

and obviously

12 inches = 1.0

To convert feet-fractions to feet-decimals, you need to divide the numerator of the fraction by the denominator. For example, if you have 3 1/4 feet, you would convert the fraction 1/4 to a decimal by dividing 1 by 4, which equals 0.25. Then you add this decimal to the whole number portion to get the total in feet-decimal format, so 3 1/4 feet would be 3.25 feet.

take the inches and divide by 12, or, make a table: (rounded to 0.001") 1" = 0.083', 2" = 0.166', 3" = 0.25', etc fractions, just divide the two numbers on a calculator. eg, 3/64 = 0.046875, rounded off to 0.046, and divide by 12. Perhaps a table here also. so five ft two and 3/4 inch = 5+0.166+0.75/12 = 5.2285' Search around, you can find software for your PC or Mac to help. just a quick look I found this: http://www.filetransit.com/files.php?name=Feet_inch_fraction I'm sure there are more.

Yes. Simply divide the number of inches by 12. For example, 3 feet 6 inches = 3 6/12 feet, or 3.5 feet.

A decimal is not a unit of length. Therefore, the two units are incompatible.
