Converting fractions to decimals?
First, convert one eighth into a decimal.
'One eighth' is expressed as a fraction, and to work out the decimal, you first need to understand what it really means.
Every number is a fraction, all you do is place the number over 1.
The fraction bar means 'divided by'. Knowing this, it's easy to work out this answer.
One eighth = 1/8 or 1 DIVIDED BY 8.
Pop this in your calculator, and you should get 0.125.
Add the 5, and your answer is 5.125.
NB: The same operation is used for all fractions.
One and three eighths as a decimal is 1.375.

To convert grams to decigrams, you simply move the decimal point one place to the left. Therefore, 493.3 g is equivalent to 4933 dg.
To convert from one metric unit to another, use conversion factors. Multiply the value you are converting by the appropriate conversion factor to get the desired unit. For example, to convert meters to centimeters, multiply by 100 since there are 100 centimeters in one meter.

One fourth is considerably less than five eighths. To convert fourths into eighths, you can multiply the fraction 1/4 by 2/2 and get 2/8. It should be apparent that two eighths is a lot less than five eighths. Less than half, in fact.
Divide seven by eight. Remember, you will get a number less than one, so place your decimal point.
One eighth is .125 in decimal, if that is what you're after, 5.375

One and three eighths as a decimal is 1.375.
One quarter is two eighths, so five eighths subtract two eighths is three eighths.
One and a half is twelve eights.plus five eights, is seventeen eights. That is two and one eighth in total, or 2.125 in decimal.
