Men can be grumpy for several reasons:

Depression Diabetes Heart disease (can cause depression especially after a bypass) Male Menopause Other diseases such a thyroid, high blood pressure, etc. The start of Alzheimers or Dementia

If you can (and I know this one is hard as heck to do) get this man in for a good physical and see if there are any problems. If he refuses and you can't control him tell him straight up you are going to leave him (and mean it!) Life is too short to waste on someone that is grumpy all the time and ignores you. Don't give him a break on this .... the doctors for a physical or you're out the front door.

No, sorry, by far the biggest reason for grumpiness is psychological, it is personality disorder, aka psychopathy. Sadly you are unlikely to be able to change them, best to avoid them as much as possible.
