You will need the airship for this! *I might be rusty at this, I haven't played in ages First, you will need to fly out to the small house located in the northern portion of the map North-West of the Forgotten Capital. There you will talk to the Chocobo sage. By doing this you will learn lots about chocobos so don't just breeze through it. Purchase some top of the line green and go home to feed as much as you can to one of your chocobos. You will have a super racer in no time. Then it will be looking forward to seeing Theo. While racing, hold R1, R2, L1, L2 and you will see that your stamina will decrease slower than normal. Beware, the sprint button will still kill you stamina so keep it until the end of the race. ADDED NOTE- DO use your sprint right away or right after you break away from the "pack" HOLDING R1, R2, L1, L2 while sprinting to slow the stamina loss. Then. after getting as far ahead as possible. When your down to 1/4 stamina- stop sprinting- keep holding R1, R2, L1, L2 to let it build up to sprint again at the final part of the race. If you're very low on stamina and the race is close- try holding all your L & R buttons, sprint release, sprint release, sprint release. And try to keep your chocobo right in front- blocking the chocobo right behind you.
Actually, most of this information is correct... But the whole " R1, R2, L1, And L2" sequence is wrong, you only need to hold the R1 and R2 buttons :) And if you have fair stamina to begin with, you can hold down the "R" buttons and hold down the "increase speed" button, you will be so far ahead, you won't need to worry when the chocobos start to sprint towards the end.
