42 ounces = 2.625 pounds (2 5/8 pounds, or 2 pounds and 10 ounces)

There are 16 avoirdupois ounces to a pound, so dividing

42/16 = 2.625

Removing the whole pounds leaves

42 - 32 = 10 which is 10/16 or 5/8 of a pound
