LociA locus (plural loci) is the position on a chromosome where a gene is found.

A useful analogy would be the address - 'Gene for brown eyes' is the name, '23rd gene' is the house number, 'Chromosome 4' is the street. (these are not necessarily true for this gene)

A locus is a set of points that satisfy a particular geometric condition. It can be a line, curve, or any other shape that represents all possible positions of a point or object that meets the given condition.

locus - precise, exact place, position. (Compare with location). Please note that locus is a very obvious borrowing from Latin and unless one really need to use the word, it may sound pompous in English.

A locus (plural: loci) is a certain site on a chromosome. This can be a gene or a genetic marker that stays in that fixed position.
