Archimedes principle states that any immersed body in a fluid will experience a buoyant force which is equal to the weight of fluid displaced by it and always acts upwards through the centroid of displaced volume.

Note that if the object weight less than the wieght of water it displaces, it will float. If it is heavier than the weight of water it displaces, it will sink but its apparent weight in water will be its in-air weight minus the weight of the water it displaces.

Archimedes' principle states that an object partially or fully submerged in a fluid experiences a buoyant force equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces. This principle can be used to calculate the buoyant force acting on an object in a fluid and determine if the object will float or sink.
